For Christmas this year, my boyfriend Jordan and I took a trip to Washington D.C. We made a reservation at The Kimpton Donovan in downtown D.C. and planned for a day of museums, photography, food and relaxation. Jordan and I arrived in D.C. around 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday and parked in the School Street garage. We then walked to the National Air and Space Museum. We had both been to the museum before so though we spent time exploring the exhibits, I was mostly interested in finding unique textures and illuminations to photograph. After we were done there, Jordan and I walked to &pizza on E Street. This is a joint I really wanted to try out, and I was not disappointed! Their pizza is MSG-free with organic dough and fresh ingredients that are locally-sourced when possible. They have an eclectic menu of pizzas, all of which are personal-sized, as well as the option to craft your own. I ordered the "Gnarlic" which included garlic ricotta, fresh mozarella, grilled onion, pesto, garlic sauce and parmesean. I also bought one of their housemade craft sodas in the flavor mango passion fruit. Totally worth it! When we finished eating, we walked to the National Museum of Natural History. This is my favorite museum. Jordan and I had both been here as well, but I couldn't help but go again. It never disappoints. This was our last stop before we checked into our hotel. Jordan wasn't feeling well on this day (and we were both tired), so we grabbed some drinks from Starbucks and headed to The Donovan. We actually ended up taking a nap! Afterwards, we had planned on having dinner at the hotel's restaurant, Zentan, but we went with our lazy gut's and ate at the Jimmy John's down the street. I know: typical. We promised to try Zentan next time! :) I had heard incredible things about the Kimpton bath and body products by Atelier Bloem, so I jumped right in the shower after dinner. The products smelled like Heaven. Jordan did the same, and we spent the rest of our night kicked back in front of the TV. Jordan is all about tranquility, so being able to simply relax was exactly what we needed. The following morning, I woke up bright and early for coffee and breakfast. Jordan and I then packed our things, checked out and headed to Shilla Bakery in Fairfax. My sister used to bring me to another Shilla Bakery in NoVA, and I got hooked on the Mammoth Bread. If you aren't familiar with it, I highly recommend heading to the Shilla closest to you! Of course I picked some up, and Jordan grabbed a twist donut as well. This concluded our little trip. Below is a gallery of photos from the museums and hotel. There is also a photo of my lunch at &pizza. Check them out, and let me know what your favorite D.C. destination is in the comments! :) Thanks for reading!
